In 1984 after experimenting with various short films Buddy Giovinazzo’s debut feature American Nightmares slowly crawled its way into the sub-basement underground of fringe cinema. The film would quickly establish itself as a shockingly grim depiction of a Vietnam vet who’s downward spiral takes the viewer on an unforgettable nihilistic journey to unimaginable depths of horror. The film would eventually find itself in the distribution ranks with legendary low budget maniacs Troma Entertainment who would retitle the film as Combat Shock. Self described by Buddy as Eraserhead meets Taxi Driver, Combat Shock continues to hold its own within the realm of no-budget truly shocking films of the 80’s and still causes walk-outs during screenings
Empire of Tombs is proud to present the original motion picture soundtrack to Rick Giovinazzo’s score of Combat Shock. Sourced directly from Rick’s archive, Combat Shock has been mastered specifically for vinyl by Dan Randall at Mammoth Sound Mastering. The soundtrack is the perfect fusion of bubbling nightmarish synths and live experimental instrumentation that gives a very unique surface to the songs of Combat Shock. Truly underground in its approach, the songs perfectly create the atmosphere for Frankie’s downward spiral by offering the strangely hypnotic droning of synths punctuated by live drumming and rhythmic angular guitar textures. Combat Shock truly belongs in a category of its own and should have a place in any genre enthusiasts collection. Gatefold Lp cut at 45 RPM for maximum sound results, the Lp features a 12 page Zine style booklet featuring all new interviews with Buddy and Rick Giovinazzo conducted by legendary artist and author Stephen Bissette.
